卢颐庭(中国)

     卢颐庭是上海市建青实验学校学生,2012年8月赴美国参加富尔登国际文化交流项目,2013年6月回国。

During the last year, which was my exchange year in the United States of America, I found myself not only had great fun but also learned a lot of stuff. Look back my experience of last year I feel it worth a year’s time to go out of China and explore the wonderful world. And I appreciate the people who helped me and take care of me. Here, I want to say thank you to all of them.

First of all, I want to talk about my host family. In this family, for the very first time, I got a little sister, Chani. As the only child in my family in China I never know how to take care of a little kid or make friends with them. But by the time I leave, Chani and I are very good friends.

We also travelled to a lot places in America, both near and far. We flew to the Disney World in Orland, Florida during our fall break. We drove to Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. During the trip we visited a lot of famous places, like the White House, Capital Hill, Air and Space Museum, National Art Museum, American History Museum, etc. What’s more we also visited the Hersey World in Philadelphia. When it was Spring Break, we went on the Carnival Cruise and travelled to Jamaica and Ocho Rios. I had great fun whit the dolphins and the stingrays there. We visited places not only far away but also places “near”. Since we lived really near Atlanta, we went there many times. Such as the Lego World, the Stone Mountain Park and so on. I really enjoyed those big and small trips.

As a new member in this family, we know few about each other at the beginning of the year but my host family still treat my as a member that we have known for long. My host dad, Matt and I both like movies very much. So we also talk about movies and share our experience about movies. We watched a lot of movies together both at home and in a movie theatre when we have spare time. He even talked me into the Star Trek movies. Now I am a big fan of this series of movies. Matt is also a “professor” on government and history stuff. When we were watching Daily Show he will tell me a lot about the cause or something related to the news.

Talking about my host mum, she is a housewife. She is busy cleaning around the house all day long. This beloved woman, her name is Kathy. More than doing the housework she also arrange all the family plans, like the travel plans, which are my favorite. She took care of me just like my mother. She taught me a lot about the American culture as well as some life skills I didn't have. Kathy also helped me a lot on a lot of things in my daily life. Though we got several small clashes, she is still my dearest Mrs. Miller. I love you and I miss you, dear Kathy!

Then I want to talk about the school I was in, a school, which located near the city of Atlanta, Creekview High School. Creekview High School even got the title of ' One of the Best Schools in America 2013'. As a student of this school, I feel really proud of my school. Although it is public school I think it is even better than a private school. I still remember the first time I step into this school; a big stuffed grizzly bear really scared me. Now I am already back to home and the time going back is still unknown. How time flies!

Among all my teachers in Creekview, my favorite teacher is Ms. Norris, my Pre-calculus teacher. I wasn't in her class at the beginning of the year actually, but when I met her for the first time she gave me the feeling of we've known each other for long. When I have free time after lunch, I would go to her room to discuss math problems or just talk about everything and nothing. Ms. Norris and I are just like friends more than teacher and student.

I got a lot of very good teachers in Creekview. I really appreciate their help for the school year. They are Mr. Lawson, my American Literature teacher; Ms. Markham, my American History teacher; Mr. Martin, my Chorus teacher; Mr. Hardin, my Chemistry teacher; Ms. Carnes, my Food & Nutrition teacher; Mr. Means, my career counselor; Mr. Olgesby, my Math Team coach and also Ms. Norris who I just mentioned. Here I want to thank them all for their help and care. They are not only my teachers but also a friend. And even now, after I come back from America I am still keeping in touch with some of the teachers.

I got a lot of friends at school, too. Guilia Passaro, an exchange student from Italy, and Jing Sun, the other exchange student from Beijing, China, are my best friends. I think the reason why we become friends with each other mainly because we are facing the same situation. We can understand each other's hardness better than anybody else does. Then, it comes Rebecca Marion. She is my best American friend. We were on the same school bus and we go to the school choir together. She and I always can find the topic we are both interested in easily every single time, so we became friends at the very beginning. And Katie Davis,we live pretty near so I slept over once at her place. We were desk mate on my Chemistry class. She helped me went through the hardest time in my Chemistry. And she also told me a lot about the homecoming. We went to take pictures together before the homecoming dance. Without them I can't have such a wonderful year. I wish every best thing would happen to them.

The Math Team was the only club I joined last year. Jing persuade me to join it. We only took part in a competition once and it's not really a real one. It was held in our school, so we all worked as volunteers and takes the scores. Though we didn't take part it's still a special experience to know how American Mathematic competition works. We have a meeting every Friday morning to practice. (My host dad, Matt, sent me to school himself very early in the morning every single Friday and I am really moved) We got a very nice coach, Mr. Olgesby. At the end of the school year we even got a Math party at a bowling place and a pizza buffet. It was so fun to have such a party! If I get a chance to choose again I will still choose to join the Math Team.

I got several chances to go to a real American party. The most memorable one was the one organized by Guilia. She cooked a lot of traditional Italian food. It was so tasty. And she planned a lot of interesting games. It was great fun. Once I slept over at Katie's house. It was my first time to sleep over at my friends' house. Two girls in one bed talk about boys, clothes, and makeups. Watch movies together and play XBOX 360. Can you imagine how happy we were when we go see the stars on the roof? It's one of the best memories of my life.

My favorite trip was actually the Spring Trip held by Forte Exchange Student Organization. There I met some of the exchange students from Shanghai. We were friends back in Shanghai. We travelled to New York City, Washington D.C, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Those were great fun. Being with the people who I am familiar with it’s just like I am home. I really like this trip and sometimes I will hope I can go on another one just like that.

That’s all I want to say about my last year. I got tears and happiness but now everything’s over. Everything go back into the same routine it used to be. It’s kind of happy but kind of sad. I feel this is the rightest choice I’ve ever made to go on this exchange journey. Anyway, I am home now. I am just going to sit back and relax enjoy my summer just like I used to.
